Our ATV wildlife tour is a fun and exciting way to see the area and experience some of the native wildlife. Combing a mountain ATV tour and a visit to the monkey sanctuary, this unique tour is a great option for experiencing the mountainous part of Guanacaste. Itinerary

Starting at the Lizard Tours main office, we will gather around 9:00 and give you a quick explanation and safety briefing. Heading out to the Congo Trail Monkey Sanctuary, we will drive through the hills of Guanacaste towards Artola town. You will enjoy a fun and exciting 2-hour ATV ride with beautiful vistas of the ocean and the unique sights/sounds of small Costa Rican villages.

After we make our way to Nuevo Colon, we will enter the Congo Trail Monkey Sanctuary, home to one of the only certified monkey orphanages in Costa Rica. You will be able to see and learn about the monkeys up close. You can also explore their small petting zoo and snake exhibit if you choose to. If you want to combine this tour with the ATV & Zip-Line tour, just give us a heads up so we can budget our time appropriately. After a fun afternoon monkeying around, we will hop back on the ATVs and make our way back to the office. If you want to stop by Playa Potrero for a quick swim, we will enjoy a refreshing break. You can expect to be back at our office by 12:00 PM.

The ATV beach tours are one of the most fun things to do in Playa Potrero. We offer both the north beach tour and the south beach tour. For the north beach tour, we start at Playa Potrero and move north up the coast. We will stop at 5 different beaches and you will have the chance to go on a short hike to a small secluded beach if you choose.

As we move up the coast, you will experience a unique phenomenon. Beach to beach, the scenery changes significantly. You will see both brown sand beaches and white sand beaches, all within miles of each other. You will also see exotic jungle fauna, beautiful mangroves and if you’re lucky, a few howler monkeys. You’ll probably hear them before you see them, but our experienced guides will help you find them in the trees!

Itinerary

We will meet at 9:00am at our Playa Potrero office. We will head north up the coast where we will make our first stop at Playa Penca, a beautiful white sand beach that has the perfect skim boarding break. Continuing up the coast, we will visit Playa Prieta which must be accessed by a steep dirt road. It is a brown sand beach with some nice shaded areas in the green season. We will continue on to Sugar Beach, a truly spectacular beach with fine, white sand. Grab a drink at the Sugar Beach Hotel if you would like!

Our last stop will be either Playa Danta or Dantita, depending on your preference. Both are equally as beautiful and quite similar. They are accessed from the same point but Playa Dantita requires a short hike, while Playa Danta does not. After enjoying some time at the beach, we will head back to the starting point. You will enjoy some beautiful coastal views and the natural beauty of Costa Rica. The ATV beach tour is a fantastic way to see the area!

Our ATV snorkeling tour is a great way to explore the area by both land and sea. On this tour, we will take you on a scenic ATV ride on the backroads of Potrero and Flamingo where our guide will take you down hidden roads looking for the best snorkeling spots. Enjoying the beautiful vistas and unique scenery, we will stop at one of the many beaches and jump in the water with our experienced guide. Depending on conditions, we might stop at different reefs but you will enjoy a refreshing swim and have the opportunity to see a variety of marine life. Although we cannot guarantee specific sightings, common marine life includes starfish, puffer fish, manta rays and tons of small colorful schools of fish. By combining an ATV tour with a snorkeling tour, you will have the opportunity to see beaches and backroads that you might not have seen otherwise.

Starting at the Lizard Tours main office in Playa Potrero, we will start off with a nice beach cruise where you will have the chance to see the area from a new perspective. We will stop at various beaches along the way and enjoy the fresh breeze and beautiful scenery along the way. Depending on conditions we will find the best snorkeling spot for the day and jump in the water. Our professional tour guide will be able to show you important safety tips for snorkeling and will have their keen eye out for unique underwater sea creatures.

Mornings are recommended for this tour as that is generally a good time to see marine life. However, depending on the tide and weather, another time might be preferred. So that you can experience the best of the underwater world, we will guide you in selecting the best time. If conditions are not excellent at our first stop, we can always hop back on the ATVs and head out for another snorkeling spot nearby. After we are finished snorkeling, we will make our way back to the main office. This is typically a 3 hour ATV snorkeling tour.

The Buena Vista Combo is a full-day adventure tour that combines a plethora of activities into one action-packed day. Starting with a 12-line canopy tour, enjoy an exhilarating rush as you fly through the canopy on zip lines. Then explore the hanging bridges where you can observe tropical birds and other wildlife before embarking on an epic 400-meter high-speed waterslide. After you have cooled off, enjoy a horseback ride or tractor ride as you make your way to the volcanic hot springs. Finish your day with a relaxing soak in the volcanic hot springs.

Itinerary

Starting our day early, we will leave the Lizard Tours office at 6:30 AM and head north to the Rincon de la Vieja National Park that is home to the Buena Vista Adventure Park. It will take approximately 80 minutes to reach the national park. Once here, we will begin with the canopy tour which consists of 12 lines. You will love the exhilarating thrill of flying platform to platform with nothing but jungle surrounding you! If you are brave enough to choose the adrenaline tour, you will be able to experience the legendary Tarzan swing at the end of the canopy tour.

Up next, is the Buena Vista Waterslide. This water slide is about 400 meters long with twists, turns and a small tunnel. You can go down the waterslide up to 3 times if you would like. After you are nice and cool from the refreshing mountain water, you will be able to enjoy a nice buffet style lunch before setting off on horseback to the hot springs. After a 30-minute ride, you will arrive at the spa. Let the spirit of pura vida overcome you as you relax in the hot volcanic water, enjoy the soothing mud baths and wash away toxins in the sauna. This is the perfect end to an action-packed day of fun.

Once we have completed all of the tours, we will load up the van and make our way back to Potrero. You can expect to be back in the office by 5 PM. As always, if you need transportation to/from your vacation rental, we are pleased to assist.

Itinerary

Starting at our main office in Playa Potrero, we will load up the van and set out around 6 AM. Heading north, we will pass many small villages and sugar plantations as we make our way to the Rincon de la Vieja National Park. After about an 80-minute drive we will arrive at the Canon de la Vieja Lodge where the fun will begin!

First, we will embark on a white-water tubing adventure through the canyon. Depending on the conditions, there will be Class II or III rapids that we will navigate in small tubes. This portion of the day will last approximately and hour and a half. Then we will hit the zip-lines where there are 9 cables that travel down the Colorado River canyon. This is also approximately an hour and a half adventure through the canyon. Then you will rappel almost 70 feet down the canyon wall with safety harnesses, helmets and professional guides. After, you will have the chance to climb up the same wall if you choose!

After an adventurous and adrenaline packed day, you will have surely worked up an appetite! Enjoy a delicious buffet style meal with typical Costa Rican food. Then take some time to relax in the hot springs at the Aquetzally Spa. Don’t skip the mud bath! The nutrient rich minerals are exactly what your skin needs to feel rejuvenated and fresh. Then hop in the van and we will make our way back to the Lizard Tours office. You can expect to be back in Potrero by 5 PM.

We will pick you up from your hotel or vacation rental at 7:00 AM and set out for Palo Verde National Park. It takes approximately an hour and a half to reach our destination and once there, we will take a guided boat tour down the river in search of wildlife. On board a 20-25-person motor boat, we will cruise leisurely down the Tempisque River while keen-eyed guides teach us about the local flora and fauna. You will be able to ask questions, learn about why this area is such a hot spot for migratory birds and get some really great photos along the way. While December-April is the recommended visitation season, there are plenty of animals to see year-round. After our two-hour guided wildlife tour, we will stop for a delicious local lunch before heading back to the meeting point. This is a full-day tour that will last about 9 hours in total.
